A Real Education in Photography
This is more than a field trip. It’s an immersive, hands-on learning experience crafted by professional photographers with decades of experience in both the commercial and fine art worlds. Through daily critique, one-on-one guidance, and real-time shooting in some of NYC’s most iconic and overlooked neighborhoods, students are challenged to grow in their craft and develop their own visual voice.
Each day is built around observation, reflection, and execution. Mornings are spent reviewing and discussing the previous day’s work in group critique sessions, emphasizing personal growth and the value of shared feedback. Afternoons are dedicated to location-based shooting, with instructors walking alongside the students—available for both technical help and creative input.
The business of photography.
To complement the creative work, students will also get insight into the business side of photography. In select workshops, we invite Carrie McIndoe—an experienced entrepreneur and founder of EntrePrep—to lead a session on turning passion into profession. With over 30 years of experience mentoring young creatives, Carrie offers practical tools and fresh perspective on how to build a sustainable career doing what you love. From pricing to positioning to pitching—this session connects photography with real-world entrepreneurial thinking.
New York City as the Classroom
The city itself is a central part of the curriculum. From the glowing lights of Times Square to the faded boardwalks of Coney Island, students are placed in constantly shifting visual environments. This forces adaptation, attention, and decision-making—key skills in any photographic practice. The locations are carefully chosen to contrast in mood, culture, architecture, and tempo, allowing each student to discover what they are drawn to and where they need to be pushed.
This is not about chasing landmarks or tourist attractions. It’s about learning how to see—no matter where you are. And in New York, every block holds something unexpected.

Living the City
Throughout the week, students and instructors live together in a spacious, character-filled loft on 37th Street in Hell’s Kitchen—just blocks from Hudson Yards and the heart of Manhattan. It’s not just accommodation; it’s part of the experience. This is where conversations continue into the evening, edits are made at the kitchen table, and inspiration flows late into the night.
Staying under one roof creates a tight-knit, collaborative environment where learning continues long after the day’s shooting is done. The loft becomes both home base and creative hub—a rare and authentic way to experience one of the world’s most iconic cities.
(…) I thought I knew more or less how it would be. I was wrong. It was way more awesome! Staying in Ron’s loft made it really personal, which was great.
I’ll do anything to do it again!
